Join your colleagues
in Regular, Higher, and Special Education to focus on students with
disabilities and ways in which we can work together to better understand
evidence-based practices for implementing the law; understand each others'
needs and priorities; and strengthen relationships to address key issues
related to supporting achievement for students with disabilities.
Borrowing from the
Second National Summit on Shared Implementation of IDEA ’97, the 2003
Division Day program will include a panel of leaders in the field. Each speaker will take one hour
(45" presentation, 15" Q & A) to share current information and
resources on one or more of these key issues:
·Linking Financial Equity with Improved Outcomes for
Students with Disabilities.
·Family/School Partnerships and Relationships.
·Dealing with Disproportionality.
·SASS –Implications of Students with
Disabilities in Standards-Based Accountibility
·NCLB Implications for Personnel: Hiring, Supporting,
Evaluating, Training
·Mentoring new Administrators in Special Education
·Promising New Practice – the Implications of
Universal Design
Following the
speakers' panel, small groups will organize according to region and use the
speakers' comments to address “The Access and Quality Gap" –
training implications for administrators and special educators. CNYSEA representatives will facilitate
the discussion sessions to help identify training discrepancies and priorities
for CNYSEA and our state's professional development networks to address.
