CNYSEA: Council of New York Special Education Administrators
November 12, 2003
New York Council for Administrators of Special Education (CASE) and the Association of Special Education Administrators (ASEA) are pleased to announce the merger of the two organizations.
Council of New York Special Education Administrators (CNYSEA) has been created to form one group, representing the voices of Special Education Administrators in New York State. We would like to invite you to join your voice with ours.
Our Mission is to form a vibrant and effective group to represent the issues and concerns facing Special Education Administrators at the State and Federal levels. CNYSEA has maintained its relationship with National CASE (Council for Administrators of Special Education) and will work with CASE on issues of National or Federal importance.
Bi-monthly, the Executive Committee meets with representatives of NYSED to discuss issues, concerns and new initiatives.
Our website, CNYSEA.ORG, is linked to National CASE and CEC and provides links to other sites of interest to Administrators of Special Education.
This summer, we offered the CSE Institute for new Special Education Administrators. This new initiative will continue during the summer of ’04. If you have an interest in developing the next strand, we would love to hear from you.
We need your support to create a viable and productive organization. We have many great ideas; we need your help to see them through. Membership in our organization is included in the cost of our Winter Conference Registration or a check made payable to NYCASE for $50.00. Contact Trish McCarron or Kusum Sinha for more information.
Our first project is to provide a response to SED on the Alternative Approaches to Implementation of the Regents Policy Statement on Middle-Level Education. We have been asked to provide a statement to the Regents on the impact these regulations may have on Students with Disabilities.
· What are the advantages or disadvantages to having flexibility at the local level for meeting the regulations? How does this help SWD meet the regulations?
· What are the advantages to providing flexibility on the timeframe for meeting course requirements over time?
· How will the changes proposed in the Middle-Level Education Policy Statement impact Students with Disabilities?
If you have thoughts or recommendations for changes that you would like to have presented to the NYS Regents, there are two different ways.
